WORS #8 Border Battle (and more)
The key to racing the Border Battle successfully seemed to be a fast start, a fast climb, and fast but short open field sections mixed with good flow through prolonged sections of single track. So basically full gas, and then catch your breath while trying to miss trees and riders, repeat... This doesn't sound like fun but I'm here to tell you differently. What a blast! Even though I did a total rookie move after having a good start. Seemed that I forgot that momentum is the key to crossing wood bridges. 1st lap chaos was started by me when I hit bridge #1 and stopped moving in about the middle. Not so smart. Now I'm looking for the least damaging way off said bridge. Front end falls into a rock pile, rear end on bridge, me doing a tripod = ugly. Spoiled the start for many but only lost 1 spot in my continuation of cyclocross practice (ran the bike through the collection of boulders to hop on and lose only 1 spot). Now I had to run for cover because the guys behind me wanted to makeup for lost time. So back to the start of this story, and finally success after doing everything correctly for 5 laps. Redemption of sorts for the 1st lap blemish. 11th overall at the most stacked WORS race of 2009, 1st in Age = $60. And, I had the time of my life (after the bridge). Please accept my apologies and thanks as applicable.
Mike S, April D, and Sean S. all finished on their age group podiums making for another stellar day for the short list of CFF athletes that made the 5 hour trek across WISCO. Outside of WORS there were some other clients having solid results at the Waupaca Triathlon, Neenah Criterium, and Race the Lake Road Race. Another great weekend for most gives me reason to smile this week. Ride on!

Great job Jeff! It was fun to watch you in the woods.
