WORS #9 Reforestation Ramble

The heavy rain in Green Bay on Saturday made for one of the fastest "dirt" conditions ever experienced at "Stump Farm". Yes, this place has about 3 different names all based on the sandy soil and lots of logging leaving behind "stumps" that are painted orange for us to avoid. Anyhow, this type of racing is my favorite because it's tactical in nature due to the twisty single track sections being well dispersed by plenty of "hauling ass" double track. Again, smooth flow dispersed by tactical group riding. CFF clients ruled their individual age group podiums once again. The list of podium finishers includes April in Elite, Sean in Comp; and Mike, Rob & Ben all in Sport. Honorable mention goes out to Jon and Matt for their solid racing efforts.

My race was so much fun that it rates right up there with the last one; Border Battle. Great start (see picture) followed by 35 miles of solid riding put me in 8th place coming down the home stretch (last mile). I had 3 riders on my wheel so no mistakes could happen in this last effort since I was leading out the train. The last soft sandy turn was hit well and I decided to Time Trial to the finish. Last straight, lap/finish sign in sight, cross-eyed as the heart rate lingers at max, Comp guy on the main line, mad dash to the right of the finish sign effectively making it a single file into the finish chute, still full gas with volunteers yelling "slow down", brakes lock skidding to a safe stop, and the realization that my best finish of 2009 hits me. Wow! So much fun riding with a great group of riders that were pretty evenly matched. It's hard to put into words what this two hours felt like. Controlled chaos, an out of body experience...
